About the Role

Nexus Health Systems Ltd is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Senior Occupational Therapist to join our team. As a key member of our Therapy Department, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and advocating for our patients' needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and develop comprehensive treatment plans for assigned patients, ensuring their unique needs are met and goals are achieved.
  • Conduct thorough assessments within 72 hours of physician referral, identifying areas for improvement and developing strategies for successful rehabilitation.
  • Supervise and mentor rehabilitation technicians and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) in direct patient care and related activities, promoting a culture of excellence and teamwork.
  • Treat patients according to approved treatment plans, utilizing evidence-based practices and monitoring progress to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with the Director of Rehabilitation, physicians, and other healthcare professionals regarding patient progress, challenges, and plans, fostering collaboration and coordination of care.
  • Participate in patient care conferences, rehabilitation meetings, and other essential meetings as assigned, staying informed and contributing to the development of best practices.
  • Accurately document treatment and outcomes on a daily basis, adhering to accepted regulatory, corporate, and professional guidelines.
  • Complete all required patient care documentation in a timely manner, ensuring compliance and maintaining high standards of quality care.
  • Perform department audits to guarantee the delivery of high-quality patient care, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Participate in In-Service Training Programs with staff, driving a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Record daily treatments and charges in accordance with department policy, ensuring accurate tracking and billing.
  • Establish and instruct caregivers and patients in patient-specific maintenance programs, durable medical equipment (DME), and safety protocols, empowering individuals to manage their conditions effectively.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to facilitate discharge planning, completing necessary paperwork and securing necessary equipment to support patient independence.
  • Serve as a clinical preceptor for affiliating Occupational Therapy or Occupational Therapy Assistant schools, mentoring students and shaping future healthcare professionals.
  • Coordinate clinical services department functions with other departments, promoting cohesion and effectiveness throughout the organization.
  • Communicate regularly with the Director of Rehabilitation regarding department programs, goals, objectives, challenges, and successes, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Maintain knowledge of state regulations and national standards governing the practice of Occupational Therapy, adhering to industry best practices and evolving requirements.
  • Demonstrate expertise in Occupational Therapy equipment used in various procedures, such as ultrasound and e-stim, ensuring proficiency and efficient use.
  • Utilize resources judiciously and maintain equipment to prolong its working life, minimizing waste and optimizing operational efficiency.
  • Achieve department productivity standards, prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively to meet demands and deliver results.
  • Communicate regularly with COTAs regarding patient goals, outcomes, and plan of care, ensuring seamless coordination and effective care delivery.
  • Share patient status updates with physicians, including weight-bearing information and activity levels, facilitating informed decision-making and collaborative care.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to patients, family members, and staff, embodying Nexus Health Systems Ltd's commitment to delivering an outstanding patient experience.
  • Showcase knowledge of medically complex patients and implement appropriate interventions based on diagnoses, ensuring tailored care that addresses unique needs.
