Senior Director, Core Platform Software Engineering

Splunk is seeking a highly experienced Senior Director to lead our Core Platform Software Engineering group. As a key member of our engineering leadership team, you will be responsible for growing, leading, and managing software engineering teams responsible for the core infrastructure services that underpin the Splunk Cloud Platform.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Map business strategy onto team roadmaps and ensure priorities are funded and have credible plans for success.
  • Lead teams of software engineers to make critical buy vs. build decisions and execute on in-house builds.
  • Be accountable for initiatives with significant business impact across 6-18+ month time frames.
  • Encourage a data-driven culture to improve performance, efficiency, and scalability of services and systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve systemic and organizational obstacles preventing teams from delivering high-quality software.
  • Champion continuous improvement by serving as a coach, mentor, and technical advisor.
  • Meet regularly with team members, plan and support career development, and recruit and retain top talent.
  • Cultivate a psychologically safe, open, and diverse environment that values discussion and debate.
  • Provide technical leadership, career development, and mentoring to team members.
Requirements:
  • At least 15-20 years of experience building large software systems.
  • Experience hiring and developing software engineers who prioritize production and quality.
  • Developing team identity, empowering direct reports, and building career growth options.
  • Experience working with customers and training software engineers to work with customers.
  • Experience building cloud-native and/or on-premises infrastructure services.
  • Experience building and cultivating strong software engineering practices and processes.
  • BS CS/EE or equivalent with 15+ years of industry experience, of which 5+ years is in Engineering Management.
  • Experience leading an organization and managing other managers at scale.
