Position Summary

The Financial Planning Analyst plays a crucial role in supporting finance and executive teams through comprehensive financial assessments. This position is integral to the finance department, acting as the primary financial partner for designated business units. The analyst will leverage robust financial expertise and experience in business finance collaboration, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), reporting, and specialized assessments. This role involves active collaboration within a dedicated team of finance professionals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver timely, relevant, and precise reporting on the performance of various divisions against historical, budgeted, and projected results to facilitate informed decision-making for senior management.
  • Assist in preparing reclassifications and accruals as part of the month-end closing process.
  • Engage with various stakeholders, providing financial and business support across departments (e.g., Sales, General Administration, Customer Experience, Editorial, Production), including the creation and analysis of standard and ad-hoc reports.
  • Compile monthly flash reports that analyze sales, expenses, operating income, and variances against budget, forecast, and prior year.
  • Conduct sales analysis by format, channel, customer, and division.
  • Prepare bridge analyses for revenue and operating income.
  • Oversee the budget and forecasting process, including overhead expenses, balance sheet, and cash flow planning.
  • Develop budget/forecast templates and supporting schedules, and manage data entry into financial systems.
  • Provide financial support to specific teams, including sales budgeting/forecasting, royalty reviews, and title profit and loss analyses.
Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Proven experience in ensuring data accuracy and timely deliverables.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and vlookup, as well as PowerPoint, Google Sheets, and Google Slides.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Experience in communicating complex financial information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative to learn and solve problems in detail.
Preferred:
  • Familiarity with SAP, Cognos, and PowerBI.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in finance, accounting, or business.
  • Three years of experience in a corporate environment.
Salary: $60,000 - $70,000/year

Exemption Status: Exempt

Physical Requirements:

This role requires sustained periods of concentration and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment. Occasional travel may be necessary, and the role may involve working beyond 40 hours per week regularly.
