Job Summary:

The RN PreOp/PACU is a critical role in our perioperative services, providing quality patient care using the nursing process and organizational policies. As a Registered Nurse, you will deliver safe, effective, and patient-centered care for all patient populations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver indirect and direct patient care according to established standards, taking into consideration the age and risk factors of the patient.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using the nursing process.
  • Follow policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for pre- and post-operative nursing care.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate pre- and post-operative nursing care for patients based on individual needs and physician's orders.
  • Organize and prepare medical records, document care appropriately, and follow up on missing data and other patient care needs.
  • Maintain and demonstrate current skills and knowledge of intravenous therapy, medication administration, patient assessment, airway maintenance, patient teaching, and emotional/social support of patients and families.
  • Use nursing judgment in decision-making and act as a patient advocate in meeting physical and psychological needs.
  • Perform patient assessment and reassessment immediately upon admission and on a regular basis, documenting these assessments as a basis for planning each patient's care.
  • Ensure that all nursing interventions and patient responses are communicated to responsible practitioners as indicated, and that all components of the nursing process are documented in accordance with standards of practice.
  • Integrate and coordinate care across settings and among disciplines.
  • Implement physician's orders effectively and safely in accordance with standards of practice.
  • Maintain or acquire skills on equipment necessary to complete required responsibilities.
  • Document all records according to established policies and procedures.
  • Assess information/documents on AdvantX and patient chart, maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Assist with reviewing and updating policies and procedures.
  • Perform effectively in stressful situations to fulfill position responsibilities.
  • Provide teaching to patient/parent of child per level of understanding.
  • Perform additional duties as needed by the department.
  • Actively participate in appropriate committee and CQI activities.
  • Inform clinical managers of applicable day-to-day situations.
  • May fill in for Pre-op / PACU / Clinical Manager if they are on leave.
  • May provide help to other Portland area USPI facilities if required.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing (associates or bachelor's degree).
  • Ideal candidate will have a minimum of two (2) years total RN experience.
  • Current Oregon License as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current BLS & ACLS.
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to provide exceptional customer service to patients, physicians, and staff.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Prefer experience with medical software programs such as Advantx, Amkai, or Epic.
  • Full range of physical mobility (position requires sustained sitting, standing, stooping, lifting as much as 50 lbs., carrying, repetitive motions, reading, answering phones, etc.).
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to problem solve with minimal direction or guidance.
  • Consistent, reliable attendance.
  • Efficient use of resources.
  • Willingness to maintain a clean, organized environment.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Reliable means of transportation.
