Job Summary:

UPMC is seeking a part-time Ophthalmic Technician to support the UPMC Vision Institute Wexford. The successful candidate will work Monday-Friday, 3-4 days a week, with some 8-hour and 4-hour days. This role requires approximately 20% travel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain detailed information from patients and perform diagnostic tests to aid in diagnosis and treatment.
  • Refractometry, including auto-refractor and transposing scripts from + to -.
  • Contact lens insertion, removal, and instructions.
  • Pupillary assessment, including measurement, comparison, and evaluation.
  • History taking, including ocular, medical, medication, social, and family information.
  • Lensometry, including automated and manual.
  • Angle assessment and dilation of pupils.
  • Visual fields, including Amsler grid and confrontation fields.
  • Supplemental skills, including color testing and glare test.
  • Ocular motility, including knowledge of functions and anomalies.
  • Tonometry, including Icare, Tonopen, and proper disinfection.
  • Visual acuity assessment, including distance, near, and intermediate.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience.
  • Completion of AAO Home Study Course preferred.
  • Valid CPR certification and Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Act 34 clearance.
