SUMMARY:
The Center Support Specialist plays a crucial role in fostering a respectful and productive classroom atmosphere that encourages safe learning experiences. This position adheres to all policies and regulations governing childcare centers, ensuring compliance with state standards and quality benchmarks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Execute responsibilities in alignment with Head Start Performance Standards, Content Area Plans, Vermont Child Care Licensing Regulations, NAEYC, and NEKCA Standards of Conduct.
  • Recognize signs of child abuse and neglect, adhering to Vermont Mandated Reporter Law and program Child Protection Protocol.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Understand and implement plans effectively when substituting for absent staff.
  • Create a welcoming and secure environment for children.
  • Assist in classroom management strategies.
  • Support center personnel with designated tasks.
  • Contribute to before and aftercare programs.
  • Engage in program activities alongside center staff.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in supporting various age groups, including infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
  • GED or High School Diploma.
  • Two years of relevant experience in a childcare setting.

Core Competencies:
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all matters.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience with young children or education in Early Childhood is preferred.
  • Successful completion of Volunteer/Substitute Training course is preferred.

Transportation Requirements:
This position requires access to reliable transportation.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Employees primarily work in a classroom setting with controlled temperature conditions. The role may involve outdoor activities during pleasant weather. Noise levels can vary from moderate to loud. The position entails sitting and standing for extended periods, utilizing office equipment, and may require bending and lifting.
