Elementary Literacy Coach for School Transformation Specialist

About the PositionWe are seeking an Elementary Literacy Coach to join our mission to improve learning and academic achievement for students in the Boyle Heights, South Los Angeles, and Watts communities. As a key member of our School Transformation team, you will work onsite and partner with one school within our network to provide professional development to teachers, support teachers to develop and implement impactful curriculum in line with Common Core ELA standards, and collaborate with teachers to use data to improve learning goals and outcomes.
Responsibilities- Develop and execute priority initiatives for English Language Arts (ELA) instruction at Partnership schools.
- Develop and oversee implementation of ELA curricular materials, including curriculum maps, common assessments, technology-connected learning programs, and other tools to support teachers and students in meeting Common Core standards.
- Collaborate with school administration to support effective instruction of Common Core, ensuring systems are in place for the literacy team to be successful.
- Collaborate with other members of the Partnership Transform and Literacy Teams to coordinate activities, develop teacher support resources, address issues and concerns, and exchange best practices.
- Build teacher capacity to implement Common Core ELA instruction, including utilizing curriculum maps, planning from standards, developing units and lessons that incorporate culturally responsive pedagogy and practices, developing assessments, implementing instructional strategies, and using data to inform instruction.
- Conduct regular classroom observations and facilitate coaching conversations with the goal of teacher growth and student learning.
- Design and deliver school-specific professional development to support the delivery of ELA instruction and provide teachers and leaders with instructional resources related to Common Core.
- Facilitate data inquiries on an ongoing basis to assess progress and needs of schools, teachers, and instructional initiatives, and support leaders and teachers in analyzing and responding to the data.
We are seeking a candidate with a proven record of academic success working with students in historically underserved schools and setting high expectations for teachers and students. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of full-time teaching experience in grades K-6 and 2 years of school leadership experience (coaching, teacher leader, department chair, BTSA coach, peer observer, etc.). A bachelor's degree is required, and a master's degree or other advanced degree is preferred; in addition, a teaching credential is strongly preferred.
