The Animal Emergency & Referral Associates is seeking a passionate and skilled Certified Veterinary Technician to enhance our Emergency/ICU team.
Work Schedule:
Overnight Shift: Wednesday - Saturday 4 PM - 2 AM
Day Shift: Wednesday - Saturday 7 AM - 5 PM
Availability for weekends as needed.
Position Summary:
This role is essential in providing critical support to our ER veterinarians, ensuring optimal care for our patients. The ideal candidate will demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and uphold the highest standards of hygiene and patient care. Effective communication with team members is crucial for maintaining accuracy and overall satisfaction.
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver care to emergency cases and hospitalized patients, addressing all needs, including:
- Conducting triage and patient assessments, obtaining vital signs, IVC placement, phlebotomy, intubations, administering injections, and performing radiology and laboratory tasks.
- Assisting with basic anesthesia procedures and monitoring.
- Providing first aid as necessary.
- Administering treatments and closely monitoring critical and intensive care patients.
- Stabilizing incoming emergencies through temperature regulation, blood pressure monitoring, and fluid resuscitation.
- Accurately documenting and communicating patient information in medical records.
- Updating veterinarians on patient status and changes.
- Maintaining a clean and comfortable environment for all patients.
- Setting up and managing equipment, with knowledge of monitoring and diagnostic tools.
- Safely restraining patients as required.
- Recording medical histories and data with precision.
- Preparing and administering medications as directed by veterinarians.
- Collecting and processing laboratory specimens as needed.
- Assisting with patient euthanasia and aftercare in a compassionate manner.
- Providing clients with basic education on nutrition, home care, and post-operative protocols.
- Restocking and ensuring cleanliness in ICU, treatment areas, exam rooms, and laboratories.
- Training junior staff on policies, procedures, and technical skills.
- Cross-training to support various hospital departments as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to fulfill all responsibilities of a Technician Assistant.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and sanitation practices.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and equipment.
- Competence in calculating dosages and injections.
- Understanding of CPR and rescue breathing techniques.
- Ability to follow directions and adapt to various situations.
- Proactive in anticipating the needs of veterinarians and nursing staff.
- Calm and effective response during emergencies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good personal grooming and hygiene.
- Team-oriented mindset with a focus on fostering a positive workplace culture.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Physical capability to lift animals up to 50 lbs without assistance.
Educational Background:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree and/or Technician Certification preferred.
Compensation is commensurate with experience and skill level, starting at $25/hour for Credentialed Technicians, with experienced Credentialed Technicians earning between $28-32/hour.
