Position Summary

The Family Support Specialist, operating under the Foster and Adoption Support contract and Kinship Support Services, plays a crucial role in assisting prospective foster parents in securing placements and obtaining foster care licensure. This position involves providing ongoing support and monitoring for potential Foster Parents and Kinship Caregivers, including conducting in-home evaluations and re-evaluations while adhering to safety standards established by relevant authorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information, including client records.
  • Exhibit proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and demonstrate the ability to learn and teach various software applications.
  • Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of clinical documentation in line with organizational standards.
  • Conduct periodic home evaluations and ongoing monitoring visits with precision and care.
  • Facilitate navigation for both licensed and unlicensed Kinship families.
  • Apply knowledge of licensing regulations, assess home environments, and recommend necessary corrective actions.
  • Comply with all aspects of the Foster Care Program contractual agreements, including reporting obligations.
  • Monitor compliance of foster families with relevant Foster Care policies.
  • Prepare and present home studies that provide factual descriptions of families for licensure and placement appropriateness.
  • Engage in essential program activities such as family assessments, home-based support, skills training, case coordination, and service documentation.
  • Demonstrate understanding of individual and family dynamics, supporting case plans for relevant agencies.
  • Apply cultural sensitivity in interactions involving children, foster families, and biological families.
  • Participate in community outreach and recruitment efforts for adoption and foster care families.
  • Guide potential Foster Parents and Kinship Caregivers to necessary resources.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of two years of higher education in a related Human Services field.
  • At least two years of relevant work experience, particularly with developmentally disabled individuals.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification required.
  • Ability to provide personal transportation to clients' locations.
  • Availability for on-call duties and weekend scheduling as needed.
  • Spanish language skills are preferred but not essential.
  • Must meet training and organizational requirements for the role.
  • Commitment to fostering a solution-focused, compassionate environment aligned with the organization's mission and values.

  • Must qualify for and maintain a valid fingerprint clearance card.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and insurability under the organization's policy is required.
