Job Title: Carpenter

We are seeking a skilled Carpenter to join our team at Lyman Lumber Company. As a Carpenter, you will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks in an assigned area, including constructing, repairing, restoring, and installing structural woodwork and related materials.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to established safety rules and regulations by passing safety tests and following all safety procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with crew and foreman, follow directions, and prioritize daily duties.
  • Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layouts and determine dimensions and materials required.
  • Provide required personal tools and maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Measure, calculate, and mark cutting lines on materials accurately, using ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge.
  • Square walls and install sheathing correctly.
  • Assemble and fasten materials to make framework or props, using hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue.
  • Select and supply crew, carpenters, and leads with materials.
  • Use proper nailing procedures for all applications.
  • Use hand, pneumatic, and other power tools to measure, cut, and install sheathing for walls and roofs, and all wall components.
  • Finish, inspect, and ensure work complies with quality standards and expectations.
  • Keep jobsites clean and safe.
  • Comply with Company's attendance policy by maintaining regular and predictable attendance.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship program, certificate, or degree program at vocational school or community college preferred.
  • Less than 1 year of carpentry experience in the commercial and/or residential sectors required.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledgeable of standard methods, practices, principles, tools, and equipment used in the carpentry trade and its associated occupational hazards.
  • Knowledgeable of qualities, adaptability, and use of various woods and materials.
  • Basic knowledge of state codes and procedures, including energy codes.
  • Good work ethic, attitude, and reliability required.
  • Basic math skills necessary.
  • Ability to communicate, read, comprehend, and comply with Company's policies and procedures, including safety and security.
  • Understanding and commitment to a safe work environment in this safety-sensitive position.
