Job Overview

DMF Lighting is seeking a highly skilled Material Buyer and Planner to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing inventory levels, maintaining forecasts, and purchasing materials and supplies to meet our monthly production and sales requirements.

As a key member of our supply chain team, you will coordinate shipments with vendors, make recommendations for process improvements, and assist other buyers as needed. You will also perform other tasks assigned by the Tactical Purchasing Manager or Director of Supply Chain.

This is an onsite position in Carson, CA, and you will be required to attend in-person work-related events, trainings, and meetings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, issue, and control purchase orders and coordinate material requirements to ensure a controlled flow of approved materials to meet production and sales requirements.
  • Communicate and/or assist in negotiating with suppliers regarding forecasts, engineering change notices, schedule changes, discrepant material issues, and delivery schedules.
  • Request and receive quotes, consider bids, and make awards.
  • Analyze inventory levels and maintain buying forecasts for all products to achieve target service levels.
  • Maintain ERP system data accuracy, especially setting related to material supply requirements.
  • Review MRP Planned requirements and implement supply plans for all material components.
  • Work with the Buyers and Finance team to identify slow inventory and monitor inventory turns.
  • Participate in demand planning and function as a team member of the S&OP and Forecast collaboration processes.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to manage product transitions and product life cycles.
  • Analyze and resolve product backlogs, fill rates, and drive actions for improvements.
  • Perform root cause analysis for stockouts, missed deliveries, and non-conforming products to proactively drive permanent solutions and processes.
  • Support spend-productivity programs, including make/buy, alternate supplier strategy, supplier consolidation, low-cost country sourcing, and program development and improvement.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by the Purchasing Manager, Director of Supply Chain, and VP of Operations.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience primarily involving supply/demand planning, forecasting, inventory management, supply chain management, and knowledge of ERP planning solutions.
  • B.A/B.S. in Business, Supply Chain, or similar field, and/or CPIM, CSCP, or CFPIM APICS certification preferred.
  • Excellent strategic, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with attention to detail and ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in handling ERP systems, Demand Solutions, and/or other appropriate software (Oracle preferred).
  • Excellent written, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to complete assignments within the specified timeframe.
  • Ability to interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels.
  • Ability to think strategically and execute tactically, with a high-level comfort with numbers.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced organization and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Consistent track record in delivering operational KPIs with leading projects and initiatives.
