Job Summary

This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service Position. As a Systems Administrator, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining computer systems and networks for the Army National Guard Units.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all assigned servers and server resources, analyzing and defining requirements, monitoring capacity and performance, diagnosing and resolving problems, and developing backup and recovery procedures.
  • Install and upgrade operating systems and layered software packages, ensuring compatibility with Army standards prior to installation or upgrade.
  • Conduct hardware and software audits to ensure compliance with Army and DOD standards, and maintain system configurations.
  • Monitor and manage the performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability of installed servers and associated server resources.
  • Resolve hardware/software interface and interoperability problems, and ensure server functionality, integrity, and efficiency.
  • Provide technical assistance to current and potential users to minimize disruptions of computer operation.
  • Test and analyze system malfunctions to resolve physical and logical processing problems.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and resolve malfunctions by adjusting equipment configurations, realigning port allocations, recommending appropriate acquisitions, and distinguishing between equipment, software, and operation problems.
  • Assist in solving problems associated with deliveries in support of individual hardware or software orders.
  • Lead or participate in on-site surveys and/or reviews program information to determine status of the function and adequacy and quality of services.
  • Maintain liaison with counterparts at other commands/installations for troubleshooting assistance and researching available products and state-of-the-art technologies and advancements.
Requirements
  • Must possess experience, education, or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles.
  • Must possess specialized experience, including at least 12 months of experience at the lower-level GS-09, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization.
  • Must possess a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree at the GS-9 level, or a Ph.D. or equivalent, or 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree at the GS-11 level.

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement.
