At Remedial Construction Services, we are seeking a skilled Laborer/Pipe Layer to join our team. As a key member of our pipe crew, you will be responsible for manual labor tasks related to pipe installation, including excavation, pipe laying, and backfilling.
Responsibilities:- Perform manual labor tasks related to pipe installation, including excavation, pipe laying, and backfilling.
- Work safely to prevent accidents and injuries, wearing all required personal protective equipment.
- Manually maneuver pipe and other materials, lifting up to 100 pounds.
- Shovel rock, dirt, or sand, and swing a sledgehammer as needed.
- Lay pipe and figure grades to ensure accurate installation.
- Climb in and out of excavations using ladders or earthen ramps.
- Manually carry materials, including bags of concrete, lumber, and plastic pipe.
- Responsible for the care and storage of all tools used.
- Ability to lift objects, walk, and stand for long periods, and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing, understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.
- Must have transportation to and from various job sites.
- Ability to operate equipment and tools properly and safely.
- Must meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
- Exercises the right, responsibility, and obligation to stop work when knowledgeable of job hazards.
- Work outside in various weather conditions.
- Able to respond quickly and willing to assist with any job duties asked by the Foreman.
- Be able to work well in a group setting as well as individually at times.
- Self-sufficient and able to follow instructions.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, ordinances, and rules involved in heavy equipment operation.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures and prepare written reports and forms.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Adhere to OSHA safety requirements and wear mandated protective equipment and clothing.
- Complete and pass all training requirements and attend all safety training programs as required.
- Exercise the right, responsibility, and obligation to stop work when knowledgeable of job hazards.
- Ability to work safely in a wide variety of climatic conditions and job site environments commonly found at Remedial Construction Services job sites.
- Complete and pass annual phosphate training and attend all safety training programs related to the job.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Minimum 5 years' experience operating multiple pieces of heavy equipment at Class A operator level.
- Extensive experience in heavy equipment operations involving mass excavations, clearing and grubbing, backfilling and compacting, excavating and pipe laying, and construction and maintenance of embankments, berms, and dikes.
- Ability to fully and safely load trucks in an efficient manner to meet the goals of the project.
- Demonstrate the skills of a finish grade operator (tolerance of 1/10 of a foot or better) on at least one piece of equipment, dozer or excavator.
- Skilled and fully competent in using GPS system as a grading tool to achieve grades.
- Skilled at the practice of operating safely on worksites according to OSHA, MSHA, and Remedial Construction Services safety protocols and requirements.
- Note that all job site locations are remote and temporary, so a form of transportation is required.
- Valid Florida driver's license, or the equivalent.
- Able to operate heavy machinery for long periods, including evenings and weekends when necessary.
- Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.
- Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather.
- Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste and smell.
- The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
