Department Overview: This role is situated within the Shelter Program of the Animal Welfare Division, responsible for overseeing and coordinating the efforts of Animal Welfare Representatives who assist the public with lost pets, adoptions, and the intake of stray or surrendered animals.

Position Summary: The Animal Welfare Supervisor is accountable for managing and directing the daily operations of staff engaged in animal care, welfare, and control activities. This includes knowledge of relevant laws and regulations governing animal management. Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations related to animal care and control, including adoptions and educational outreach.
  • Conduct supervisory and administrative tasks, ensuring adherence to departmental policies.
  • Provide training and technical support to staff, demonstrating proper procedures and equipment usage.
  • Evaluate operational effectiveness and propose enhancements.
  • Organize and delegate tasks among team members.
  • Ensure compliance with laws and organizational policies.
  • Engage with citizens and various stakeholders to resolve issues and disseminate information.

Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of animal shelter operations and control programs.
  • Proficiency in standard computer applications.
  • Understanding of applicable federal, state, and local animal care regulations.
  • Ability to train staff effectively.
  • Experience in animal handling and care.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to various weather conditions and potential hazards associated with animal handling.
  • Physical demands include lifting and moving animals weighing up to 75 lbs.
  • Requires flexibility and stamina to perform duties throughout the workday.
