About the Job

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer for substation design and construction, working closely with our project teams to adapt electrical plans based on budget constraints, design factors, and client needs. A strong understanding of AC/DC fundamentals, three-phase power systems, and protection principles is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Create single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control schematics, communication diagrams, wiring diagrams, cable lists, and relay panel arrangements for new or modified substations.
  • Perform calculations like DC battery sizing, AC load sizing, voltage drop, conduit fill, and control cable sizing.
  • Develop technical specifications for major equipment, such as power transformers, circuit breakers, control enclosures, and other high-voltage materials.
  • Coordinate with SCADA engineers, physical engineers, and design staff to integrate protection, control, and monitoring systems.
  • Apply field mark-ups of project as-built drawings.
  • Assist with client communication and manufacturer drawing reviews.
  • Analyze problems, research solutions, and recommend improvements.
  • Communicate and coordinate project activities with the project manager and others.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced team members.

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam is acceptable.

Skillset

  • Familiarity with microprocessor-based protection and control systems.
  • Understanding of one-lines and control schematics.
  • Experience with relevant codes and standards, such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, NEMA, and ANSI.
  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for 1 year of experience.
  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

Compensation

The estimated annual salary for this role is $120,000 - $150,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
