Join First Orion's Data Engineering team and take on the challenge of designing and building data-driven products and services. As a Software Development Engineer, you will be responsible for developing low-latency, high-throughput APIs, ETL data pipelines, and managing big data applications with attention to detail.

This role involves working on complex data architectures, collaborating with data scientists to integrate new models into products, and optimizing code for performance. You will also be responsible for reducing technical debt and making ETL jobs operationally supportable by leveraging tools within Databricks and AWS.

As a member of our Data Architecture Team, you will work closely with your team leader, fellow team members, and product and data science stakeholders to create technical designs and collaborate on projects that safeguard hundreds of millions of consumers and enterprise businesses from telecommunications fraud.

We are looking for a highly motivated and self-starting individual with a strong understanding of streaming tools such as Kinesis, Kafka, or 0MQ, and a minimum of 1 year of SQL experience and familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop ETL jobs and analytics pipelines using Databricks and Apache Spark
  • Develop low-latency, high-throughput REST APIs, such as our call protection products
  • Author and contribute to Technical Designs (TDs) for new prioritized projects
  • Create and maintain unit and integration tests for data-driven applications
  • Reduce technical debt and make ETL jobs operationally supportable by leveraging tools within Databricks and AWS

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science (or related degree)
  • 3+ years of experience in a data or software engineering position using relevant tools
  • 2+ years of experience using Apache Spark with Scala or Python (pyspark)
  • 2+ years of experience with a cloud computing service (AWS preferred)
  • Strong understanding of streaming tools such as Kinesis, Kafka, or 0MQ
  • Minimum 1 year of SQL experience and familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases

Bonus Points:

  • Specialized experience in Databricks with Unity Catalog and Workflows
  • Experience using Delta Lake tables and Parquet data format
  • Previous experience in the Telecom industry
