Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough pharmaceutical verification of prescription orders, including legend drugs, over-the-counter medications, medical surgical supplies, and controlled substances.
- Evaluate drug orders and ensure accuracy by cross-referencing with medications presented at verification stations.
- Pre-verify medications for dispensing using specialized equipment to ensure precise filling into prescription containers.
- Complete the verification and dispensing process for controlled substance orders, adhering to regulatory guidelines.
- Oversee Quality Assurance processes and provide guidance to Pharmacy Technicians.
- Adhere to established policies for documentation and reporting, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
- Identify and report any discrepancies in medication orders, including unusual dosages or incorrect medications, in accordance with internal policies.
- Ensure comprehensive checking, labeling, and quality assurance of pharmaceutical products, following all relevant guidelines.
- Compound and dispense medications in compliance with corporate and regulatory standards for controlled substances.
Qualifications
- Must hold a valid pharmacy license in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
- Graduation from an accredited pharmacy program recognized by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) is required.
- Licensure for controlled substances is mandatory, with the ability to practice in multiple states.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with colleagues and staff.
- Proficiency in basic typing, PC skills, and familiarity with MS Office applications is necessary.
- Fluency in English, including reading, writing, and speaking, is required.
- Ability to pass the VetPro certification process, which is essential for all licensed healthcare providers within the Veterans Health Administration.
- Physical capability to sit or stand for extended periods and lift weights up to 30 pounds repetitively.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as sitting, standing, walking, lifting, squatting, bending, twisting, and reaching during work shifts.
- Capability to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist and carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
- Ability to push or pull with a force of 30 lbs.
