Job Summary

The County of Santa Barbara, CA is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Maintenance Supervisor to join our team. As a key member of our facilities operations team, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of our buildings and facilities, ensuring that they are safe, efficient, and well-maintained.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise a team of maintenance staff and contract workers to ensure that maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate maintenance activities to minimize disruptions to operations.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex maintenance issues, including electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Develop and implement maintenance budgets and schedules to ensure that resources are allocated effectively.
  • Train and evaluate staff to ensure that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Ensure that all maintenance activities are conducted in accordance with safety protocols and regulations.
Requirements
  • Three years of journey-level experience in construction and/or maintenance work, including one year of experience in a specialty building trade (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.) and as a leadworker or supervisor.
  • A combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
  • Ability to manage and maintain a division budget.
  • Ability to manage daily operations, diagnose problems, and initiate necessary action.
  • Ability to oversee a crew of 5 or more employees, inmates, and/or contractors.
  • Knowledge and working experience in various computer systems/software programs, including Internet, Web Search, and Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification as a Forklift Driver or California Contractor's License.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
