Job Summary

As a key member of the perioperative healthcare team at Ephraim McDowell Health, the Surgical Technician plays a vital role in supporting surgeons and charge nurses in the operating room.

Responsibilities:

* Provides technical assistance to surgeons and charge nurses during surgical procedures
* Supports the surgeon by providing instrumentation and assistance
* Responsible for utilizing the surgical process, including surgical counts, hand-off communication, and time-out process
* Collaborates with the RN circulating nurse to ensure accurate counts and maintain sterile fields

Requirements:

* Completion of an approved OR technician course
* Ability to speak English
* Demonstrated competence in the clinical setting
* Basic Life Support certification (successful completion within three months of employment)

Working Conditions:

* Works in a well-lit, ventilated, and air-conditioned area
* Exposed to unpleasant odors, sights, and sounds
* Long periods of standing, walking, stooping, heavy lifting, and bending required
* Risks exposure to disease, infection, and physical strain, and assault
* Risks exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, radiation, and anti-neoplastic agents
