Job Title: School Based Health Center Nurse Pool

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Based Health Center Nurse to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality healthcare services to students enrolled in the School Based Health Center.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for students with minor illnesses and injuries.
  • Refer students to the medical director/nurse practitioner as necessary for further medical/health evaluation.
  • Assist in checking immunization records of enrolled students and provide immunizations as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the school nurse to prepare required Office of Public Health immunization reports.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and comprehensive health records for enrolled students.
  • Conduct screenings (vision, hearing, height, weight, and scoliosis) and other screenings recommended by the medical director/nurse practitioner.
  • Follow up on students referred to other/outside healthcare providers.
  • Conduct conferences with students and/or parents as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the SBHC medical director/nurse practitioner, school nurse, and other healthcare providers to serve as a health resource to school staff and parents.
  • Monitor, supervise, and administer medication to enrolled students in accordance with JPPSS policy.
  • Adhere to SBHC confidentiality policy and mandated federal guidelines.
  • Manage SBHC medical equipment and supplies.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians as necessary concerning the health status of enrolled students.
  • Assist the SBHC medical director/nurse practitioner and other providers as necessary to ensure optimal healthcare to enrolled students and maintain daily operations of the School Based Health Center.
  • Perform or collect necessary lab tests upon enrolled students as ordered by the doctor/nurse practitioner.
  • Maintain and upgrade nursing skills through continuing education as required by the State Board of Nursing.
  • Attend school staff/faculty meetings as a SBHC representative.
  • Provide or assist doctor/nurse practitioner in providing Kidmed and sports physicals.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Health Services.

Requirements:

  • Holds and maintains current Registered Nurse licensure with the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
  • Holds and maintains current certification in CPR.
  • Maintains ancillary certification with the Louisiana Department of Education.
  • Acquires a minimum of 10 contact hours of continuing education in subjects related to school nursing.
  • 3 years experience as a Louisiana licensed registered nurse.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience in pediatrics or community nursing is recommended.
  • Previous school nursing experience.

Physical Involvement:

Must be able to operate office equipment. Standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting up to 10 pounds is required.
