Job Title: Executive Director - Poverty Reduction Specialist

Step Up Savannah is seeking a highly experienced and results-driven leader to serve as its Executive Director. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of effectively leading and scaling a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff.

About the Role

The Executive Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for Step Up Savannah's staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the field of poverty reduction, policy areas, core programs, operations, and business plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Management:
    • Evaluate services provided by Step Up Savannah in relation to specified goals and standards, and recommend modifications and new programs as needed.
    • Lead public policy education and advocacy efforts, and position the organization as a leading voice on poverty issues.
    • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field of poverty reduction.
    • Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors, and ensure effective systems to track progress and outcomes.
    • Measure successes and communicate them to the board, funders, and the community.
    • Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence and rigorous program evaluation.
    • Develop and recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals.
    • Recruit, employ, and release personnel, and ensure effective staff management practices.
  • Partnerships:
    • Experience in planning and facilitating groups from various sectors to drive shared understanding and ownership.
    • Engage and energize Step Up Savannah's volunteers, board members, action teams, event committees, partnering organizations, and funders.
    • Maintain and increase involvement with federal, state, and local government units, and other agencies in similar fields of service.
    • Maintain and increase involvement of neighborhood leaders and business sector leaders.
  • Budget & Finance:
    • Develop and maintain sound financial practices, and recommend policies to the board.
    • Ensure implementation of policies adopted by the board, and work with the staff and Finance Committee to prepare and approve the annual budget.
    • Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
    • Hold responsibility for regular reporting to various funders, legal and regulatory bodies.
  • Fundraising & Communications:
    • Ensure ongoing successful relationships with national and local funders, and expand local and national revenue-generating and fundraising activities.
    • Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations.
    • Represent the programs and point of view of the organization to agencies, organizations, and the general public.
    • Publicize the activities of the organization, its programs, and goals, and deepen and refine all aspects of communications.
Requirements
  • Advanced degree, ideally a Master's degree, with at least six years of senior management experience.
  • Proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience.
  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation.
  • Excellence in organizational management, with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams.
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors, with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships.
  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning.
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.

Step Up Savannah is an independent 501(c) 3 organization with a 39-member board of directors that counts 95 organizations as its partners. The organization works collaboratively to reduce poverty in Savannah and Chatham County.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position that requires the ability to commute to Savannah, GA. The ideal candidate will have a willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
