Key Responsibilities

*Exhibits proficiency in various procedures including polysomnography, baseline, split-night, and PAP titration, MSLT, and MWT. Possesses foundational knowledge of disorders such as sleep apnea, hypopnea, respiratory effort-related arousal, and sleep physiology examinations, narcolepsy, hypersomnolence, parasomnias, seizures, gastric reflux, continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure examinations, insomnia, hypersomnia, and documentation of events.

Administers oxygen (as per physician directives) and/or nasal CPAP/BiPAP following departmental protocols. Educates patients on the correct usage and maintenance of equipment.

Takes responsibility for conducting all types of neurodiagnostic testing for patients across various age groups and sleep disorder testing procedures.

Assesses the educational needs of patients and their families, initiating and implementing suitable teaching or making appropriate referrals.

Engages in non-direct patient care activities, including educational initiatives, quality improvement efforts, standards development and review, hospital/unit committees, and other related activities.

Qualifications

Education:

Completion of a diploma or degree in a college-level science field related to polysomnography, electroneurodiagnostics, or a degree and licensure in healthcare.

Licensure:

Registered Polysomnographic Technician or registry eligible. Board certification by the Board of Registration of Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) must be achieved within the first year of employment.

Experience: Preferred six months of experience in a Sleep Disorders Center, though not mandatory.

Certification: BLS certification required.
