Position Overview:
The Costing Accountant for Logistics and Warehousing plays a pivotal role in scrutinizing and overseeing all expenses associated with the logistics and warehousing functions of our trading operations. This position entails maintaining precise financial documentation, conducting thorough cost analyses, and formulating strategies aimed at cost reduction to enhance operational efficiency and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Analysis for Logistics and Warehousing: Establish and uphold accurate cost tracking systems for all logistics and warehousing activities. Examine costs linked to transportation, storage, handling, and other logistics services to pinpoint trends, discrepancies, and areas ripe for enhancement.
- Budget Management: Develop and oversee budgets for logistics and warehouse operations. Collaborate closely with logistics and warehouse teams to project costs based on operational metrics and market dynamics.
- Cost Reporting: Produce comprehensive monthly reports detailing logistics and warehouse expenditures, comparing actual costs against budgeted and historical figures. Highlight significant variances and offer actionable insights for cost management and reduction.
- Enhancing Operational Efficiency: Partner with logistics and warehouse managers to uncover cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies that boost operational efficiency while maintaining service quality.
- Financial Planning and Analysis: Contribute to the financial planning process by providing insights into logistics and warehousing costs. Assist in strategic decisions, including negotiations with logistics providers, optimizing warehouse space, and investing in technology.
- Inventory Costing: Collaborate with the inventory management team to ensure accurate costing of inventory holdings, including costs associated with warehousing and logistics. Support inventory valuation and contribute to inventory management strategies.
- Compliance and Internal Controls: Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and controls related to logistics and warehousing expenses. Engage in audits and implement recommendations for compliance and process enhancements.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Professional accounting certification (CPA, CMA, or equivalent) is preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in cost accounting, with a strong preference for experience in logistics, supply chain, or warehouse accounting.
- Familiarity with logistics and warehousing operations and associated cost structures.
- Proficient in accounting software and ERP systems, with the ability to adapt to new technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen focus on detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication skills, capable of collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Time management skills to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools.
- Primarily office-based, with occasional visits to logistics centers or warehouses for operational insights and collaboration.
- Standard office hours, with flexibility required during monthly closings or budgeting periods.
