Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Emergency Telecommunicator to join our team at the Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch Authority. As a key member of our dispatch center, you will be responsible for receiving and processing emergency calls, dispatching units, and providing critical support to our first responders.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Receive and process emergency calls, including 911 calls and non-emergency calls for police, fire, and medical services.
  2. Dispatch units to emergency scenes, providing critical information and instructions to responders.
  3. Operate Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems to track and manage emergency responses.
  4. Provide pre-arrival medical instructions to callers, using medical dispatch cards and protocols.
  5. Monitor radio transmissions and take appropriate action to ensure the safety of responders and the public.
  6. Assist with training new dispatchers and evaluate their progress.
  7. Perform minor maintenance on equipment and notify management of any issues.
  8. Control access to the dispatch center and maintain a secure environment.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of LEIN operator certification, CPR, and Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification.
  • Experience with the public, preferably in a communications or telephone capacity.
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency situations and handle crises in a professional manner.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
Working Conditions

The dispatch center is a 365/24/7 operation, and employees must be able to work 12-hour shifts, including holidays and overtime. The physical demands of the job include prolonged periods of sitting, hearing and communicating with others, and using a computer/keyboard.
