Job Summary

The Activity Therapist at Acadia Healthcare will serve as a vital member of the patient's treatment team through planning, directing, and implementing daily activity therapy programs. This role is designed to promote the mental and physical well-being of adult patients experiencing an acute behavioral and/or mental health crisis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Activity Assessment: Complete thorough assessments of patients through observation and interviews with patients and their families to develop and implement treatment plans that cater to their unique needs, skills, interests, and limitations.
  • Program Planning: Plan and implement activities programs, including therapeutic leisure skills and activities, leisure education, and leisure awareness, to promote patient engagement and progress.
  • Session Facilitation: Lead activity sessions that improve patient mental and physical well-being, such as sports, dance, music, art, or relaxation techniques tailored to meet their specific needs.
  • Treatment Planning: Develop and implement treatment plans and activity interventions that align with patient needs and interests, helping them achieve their treatment goals.
  • Patient Engagement: Engage patients in therapeutic activities, such as exercise, games, and community outings, to promote social skills and independence.
  • Activity Modification: Modify activities to suit the needs of specific patient groups, ensuring inclusivity and effectiveness.
  • Professional Attitude: Demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards patients, acknowledging and addressing complaints in a timely manner, and prioritizing patient safety above all else.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy, or a related field is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience: Three or more years of experience in recreation in a healthcare setting, with knowledge of the patient population served by the facility, is required.
  • Certifications: Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or currently in the process of obtaining national certification; or certified in the area of specialty (Art, Dance, Music, etc.) or clinical professional licensure (LCPC, LPC, etc.) with certification in expressive therapy area is required.
  • CPR and De-escalation Training: CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification is required, with training available upon hire and offered by the facility.
