As an Early Childhood Special Education Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering tailored educational experiences aimed at fostering the intellectual, emotional, physical, and social development of students with special needs. QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification/License:
Texas Certified - Multiple content areas preferred

Texas Special Education Teacher Certification

Texas ESL Supplemental Certification

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution required

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Familiarity with the Individual Education Plan (IEP) development and execution

Understanding of the special education process and the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee

General knowledge of curriculum and instructional strategies

Ability to engage with children with various disabilities

Proficiency in data interpretation and application

Growth mindset and effective communication skills

EXPERIENCE:
Completion of student teaching or an approved internship

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Planning:

  • Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to create an IEP through the ARD Committee process for each assigned student.
  • Assess student needs related to the curriculum and utilize findings to inform instructional planning.
  • Regularly participate in ARD/IEP Committee meetings.
  • Develop and implement appropriate instructional strategies and materials that reflect an understanding of students' learning styles and needs.
  • Design and execute a program that promotes skill development for assigned students, maintaining written documentation as required.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom educators to provide necessary accommodations and modifications to ensure access to the general education curriculum.
  • Establish a plan to enhance students' self-advocacy skills.

Learning Environment:

  • Create a conducive learning environment that supports the physical, social, and emotional growth of students.
  • Ensure a safe learning atmosphere.
  • Consult with classroom educators on managing student behavior, including positive behavioral supports as outlined in the IEP.
  • Manage student behavior according to established frameworks and guidelines.
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques in crisis situations, and if necessary, apply physical management to ensure safety.
  • Take precautions to protect educational materials and equipment.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials and resources.
  • Collaborate with other educators to provide individualized instruction for special populations in line with district and state guidelines.
  • Support students in their educational, personal, and social development.
  • Respect and honor the diverse cultures and backgrounds of students and their families.
  • Engage in a professional learning community to promote the success of all students.
  • Work with the campus Problem Solving Team (PST) to develop intervention strategies.
  • Design accommodations that allow students to participate in extracurricular activities.

Instruction:

  • Ensure students with special needs have access to the full curriculum.
  • Present subject matter in accordance with ARD/IEP guidelines.
  • Collaborate with general educators to create effective accommodations that facilitate student access to instruction.
  • Employ diverse instructional techniques and media to cater to the unique needs of each student.
  • Utilize digital tools for instruction, assessment, and documenting learning outcomes.
  • Collect and analyze ongoing data to inform instructional decisions and ensure student progress.
  • Provide necessary personal care and medical support as specified in the IEP.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of instruction and student progress, reporting in accordance with district procedures.
  • Administer assessments as required by established protocols.

Communication:

  • Consult with district and community resources regarding the educational and personal needs of students.
  • Maintain open communication with parents, students, and colleagues through regular conferences.
  • Foster professional relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Utilize effective communication skills to convey information clearly.
  • Send Progress Reports on IEP goals to parents as specified.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students and support the district's mission.
  • Uphold confidentiality regarding students' personal information.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Engage in frequent problem-solving with the instructional team. The role may require standing, bending, kneeling, and moving educational materials.
