Job Title: Bus Driver

We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Bus Driver to transport children to and from program sites for the Madison Area YMCA.

Job Summary:

The Bus Driver will provide safe and efficient transportation to children, while maintaining a positive and supportive demeanor. The ideal candidate will have a valid Class B license, P&S Endorsement, and a minimum of one year of work experience as a bus driver.

Responsibilities:
  • Drive bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.
  • Complete thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and record all information.
  • Record gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms.
  • Clean out bus each day.
  • Promote safety at all times and keep first aid supplies fully stocked.
  • Ensure that bus rules are announced and followed.
  • Develop friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
  • Communicate regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum one year work experience as a bus driver.
  • Possess valid, Class B license and P&S Endorsement.
  • Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles (bus).
  • Must pass a criminal background and drug test.
  • Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR and First Aid.
  • Desire and ability to work with children.
  • Track record of building relationships with staff, volunteers, and parents.
Working Conditions:
  • Ability to work with irregular work hours.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time while maintaining alertness.
  • May also require bending, kneeling, leaning and walking.
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids is possible.
  • Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
  • Ability to withstand a wide range of outside temperatures - heat, cold, wind, rain.
