Job Title: HIV Prevention Outreach and Education Specialist

Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced HIV Prevention Outreach and Education Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our prevention team, you will play a critical role in educating at-risk clients about HIV prevention strategies, providing outreach and education services, and facilitating access to healthcare and social services.

Job Summary:

The HIV Prevention Outreach and Education Specialist will work closely with our prevention team to develop and implement outreach and education strategies to engage high-risk populations in HIV prevention services. This includes conducting street and facility-based outreach, educating clients about combination prevention strategies, and facilitating their enrollment into our program.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct outreach and education activities to engage high-risk populations in HIV prevention services.
  • Develop and implement outreach and education strategies to increase awareness of HIV prevention strategies among at-risk clients.
  • Provide education and counseling to high-risk clients on combination prevention strategies, including correct and consistent condom use, HIV testing, and PrEP.
  • Facilitate access to healthcare and social services for clients, including medical interventions and social supportive services.
  • Collect and submit data on outreach and education activities to our data unit.
  • Collaborate with our prevention team to integrate cross-program activities and functions.
Requirements:
  • Recovery coach certification preferred or willingness to complete within 1 year of hire.
  • Ability to engage and serve high-risk populations, including those with substance use disorders and mental health issues.
  • Basic knowledge of HIV, HCV, STI, PEP/PrEP, and harm reduction methods.
  • Experience in community outreach and education, preferably in a healthcare or social services setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
