Job Summary

As a Financial Counselor at LifeSpan, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient financial services. Your primary responsibility will be to interview patients, verify insurance coverage, establish payment arrangements, and determine eligibility for financial assistance. You will work closely with patients, employers, and insurance companies to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide financial counseling to patients and their families, ensuring they understand their financial obligations and available assistance options.
  • Verify insurance coverage and determine eligibility for financial assistance, working closely with patients, employers, and insurance companies.
  • Establish payment arrangements with patients, including negotiating payment schedules and initiating promissory notes.
  • Collaborate with local physicians, their office staffs, and other Hospital departments to ensure mutual understanding and acceptance of financial policies.
  • Notify other Hospital departments of reimbursement requirements and coordinate reporting of information to insurance carriers.
  • Document all pertinent patient account information, including insurance coverage, billing instructions, and payment plans.
  • Revises and updates patient demographic and/or insurance information in both Registration and Financial computer systems.
  • Arrange inter-bank transfers of funds for patient payments, including wiring monies from banks outside of the United States.
  • Prepare a status report monthly, including inpatients hospitalized over 30 days or whose balances exceed $15,000.
  • Research and resolve billing questions from walk-in patients with the assistance of corporate customer service staff and Pre-collect company.
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of all private information pertaining to patients.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need a high school education, an advanced knowledge of third-party reimbursement, and state and federal programs for the needy. Excellent communication skills are essential, as well as a basic knowledge of the registration process.
