Job Description:

The University of Mississippi seeks a highly motivated and academically accomplished individual to serve as a Tutor in the School of Journalism and New Media. As a Tutor, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic success of students in the department, working closely with the Assistant Dean of Student Services to achieve retention goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic support to students in the journalism and IMC curriculum, including tutoring in courses such as Jour 101, 102, 103, 270, 271, 273, 310, 369, and IMC 104, 205, 304, 306, 390, 391.
  • Develop and implement effective tutoring strategies to meet the needs of assigned students.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with students, faculty, and staff to ensure seamless support services.
  • Document student progress and objectives met in tutoring sessions, submitting bi-weekly timesheets as required.
  • Participate in New Tutor Orientation and ongoing training throughout the semester to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled as a student at the University of Mississippi, pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in IMC or Journalism.
  • Classified as a sophomore or higher.
  • A minimum grade point average of 3.0.
  • A letter grade of 'B' or higher in each course being tutored.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work a minimum of five hours per week, with the possibility of increased hours as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Tutoring experience, although not required.
  • A letter of recommendation from a faculty member.
