Job Summary:
As a Medical Imaging Specialist at SUNY Upstate Medical University, you will be responsible for reading and interpreting requests and instructions from physicians concerning MRI examination techniques. This includes determining body regions and projections to be undertaken, greeting patients, explaining procedures, and reassuring anxious and distressed patients. You will also guide and position patients before and during examinations to obtain the required views.

Key Responsibilities:
Operate MRI equipment by setting controls and making adjustments using guidelines and standard procedures as directed by physicians.
Procure the required images by following established protocols and procedures.
Receive general technical supervision from Senior MRI Technologist, including orientation to the facility and equipment, advice on procedures, and spot-checks of overall performance.

Additional Responsibilities:
Supervise junior and student technologists, ensuring they are properly trained and equipped to perform their duties.
Conduct quality control of MRI examinations, including proper positioning, technique factors, and appropriate use of resources.
Provide orientation for new technologists and maintain clinical competencies of staff.
Advise and assist staff technologists as needed, including new routines, special views, and uncooperative patients.
Coordinate and direct patient flow to various scan rooms, ensuring maximum efficiency.
Report potential or current equipment malfunctions to the proper service personnel or supervisor.
Train radiographic students in the use and maintenance of radiographic equipment.

Requirements:
AAS in Radiologic Technology or equivalent, NYS license/registration (must obtain within 6 months of receiving limited permit), ARRT (must obtain within 1 year of appointment), one year experience as a radiologic technologist, and current CPR-BLS certification are required. Registration certification for Contrast Injection is also required (must obtain within 3 months of appointment).
