Registered Nurse - Correctional Facility

As a vital member of our healthcare team, you will be tasked with delivering comprehensive nursing care to individuals within a correctional environment. Your role will involve:

  • Providing direct patient care and coordinating healthcare services for inmates.
  • Working a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week, with shifts from 3 PM to 11 PM.
  • Engaging in a 13-week contract that offers the possibility of extension.
  • Receiving weekly travel stipends for housing, meals, and incidentals for those living 50 miles or more from the job site.

Qualifications for Registered Nurse in Corrections

  • A minimum of 6 months of RN experience.
  • Covid vaccination or accepted medical/religious exemptions.
  • Possession of an active Registered Nurse license in Ohio or a Compact License.
  • Current BLS certification.

Educational Background

Must be a graduate from an accredited Diploma, Associate, or Baccalaureate Nursing program.

Licensure Requirements

Must hold a current and unrestricted RN nursing license in the state of practice or a Compact License.

Work Environment

  • Work within a correctional setting with potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other infectious materials.

Key Responsibilities:

In the correctional medical center, you will oversee the healthcare of 20-60 bedridden inmates, which includes:

  • Conducting rounds and assessing care needs.
  • Developing care plans and educating patients on health principles.
  • Administering medications, including narcotics, and providing direct nursing care.
  • Performing specialized procedures such as IV therapy, wound care, and CPR.
  • Monitoring and documenting patient symptoms and progress.
  • Collaborating with physicians and other healthcare staff to ensure comprehensive care.

Professional Development:

Participate in staff training and development, reviewing care plans, and orienting new employees. You may also lead emergency response teams and assist in administrative tasks related to patient care.
