Role Summary: The Greater Somerset County YMCA is in search of enthusiastic and skilled musicians to provide engaging music instruction for children and adolescents, specializing in Guitar, Piano, Voice, and Woodwind Instruments. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in working with various age groups, helping students achieve their musical aspirations while cultivating a foundational understanding of music theory to enhance their skills on their chosen instruments. The Music Educator will report to the Youth & Family Program Coordinator and will be responsible for designing and delivering lessons for children aged 3-11.
Key Duties:
- Facilitate individual or group music lessons across different disciplines for students of varying ages and skill levels.
- Develop customized lesson plans tailored to the unique needs and goals of each student.
- Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to support students in improving their musical abilities.
- Engage in recitals, performances, and other events to showcase students' progress as coordinated by YMCA management.
- Ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for all participants.
- Collaborate with fellow music educators and staff to enhance the overall music curriculum at Greater Somerset County YMCA.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in music education, performance, or a related discipline is preferred. However, self-taught individuals with a passion for music are also encouraged to apply.
- Prior experience in teaching music lessons, ideally within a community or educational context.
- Proficiency in musical instruments such as piano, voice, woodwinds, or percussion.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to inspire and motivate students of diverse ages and skill levels.
- Experience in organizing or participating in music-related events.
- Commitment to the values and mission of the Greater Somerset County YMCA.
Work Schedule: This is a part-time position with flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the needs of students and program requirements.
