Key Responsibilities:

The Practical Nursing Specialist is responsible for delivering direct patient care under the guidance of the healthcare team. This role also encompasses administrative tasks, patient interaction, and maintaining accurate medical documentation.

  • Collects and records clinical information from patients, demonstrating proficiency in clinical procedures and promptly reporting any irregularities to the supervising medical provider.
  • Handles patient inquiries via phone and addresses medication-related concerns.
  • Documents nursing assessments, interventions, and patient responses in medical records.
  • Skilled in performing blood draws and administering vaccinations, ensuring proper handling and processing of specimens.
  • Facilitates timely patient care and coordinates referrals in collaboration with the Registered Nurse.
  • Accurately measures and records vital signs, weight, and height, and promptly communicates any concerns to the medical provider or Registered Nurse.
  • Utilizes appropriate methods for collecting urine specimens and instructs patients on proper specimen collection techniques.
  • Adheres to safety protocols regarding bloodborne pathogens and maintains standard precautions during patient care.
  • Monitors and replenishes medical supplies in the treatment area as needed.
  • Processes supply requisitions in accordance with established procedures.
  • Reports any equipment malfunctions or issues to the Registered Nurse or Office Manager.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in answering calls, patient registration, scheduling appointments, and managing electronic records.
  • Maintains accurate records of laboratory tests and prepares necessary documentation for diagnostic requisitions.
  • Complies with policies regarding patient rights and confidentiality.
  • Follows established protocols for patient flow and assists with various administrative tasks as required.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduate from an accredited Practical Nursing program.
  • Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to perform venipuncture for blood specimen collection.

Preferred:

  • Minimum of three years of experience in an outpatient care environment as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires active engagement with patients and staff, necessitating mobility within the office environment. Employees must be able to effectively communicate and exchange information with various stakeholders.
