Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Firefighter to join our team at the City of Georgetown. As a Firefighter, you will play a critical role in protecting the lives and property of our citizens by responding to emergency calls and providing fire protection services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to fire alarms and other emergency calls in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Perform fire suppression and rescue operations to protect people and property.
  • Provide public education on fire safety and prevention.
  • Work closely with other emergency responders to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Participate in regular training and drills to maintain and improve skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by a minimum of two (2) years' experience in the firefighting field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Firefighter I and Firefighter II certifications.
  • Valid South Carolina Driver's License.
  • EVDT, Pump Ops I, Pump Ops II, and Aerial Ops certifications.
  • Hazmat Technician, ICS 100/200/700/800.
Physical Demands

The Firefighter must be physically able to operate a variety of heavy machines and equipment. The job requires exerting up to five pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently. The Firefighter must be able to push, stoop, lift, pull, reach, kneel, climb, crouch, carry, or otherwise move objects. Work involves walking or standing for periods of time. The Firefighter must be able to lift/carry weights of up to 80 pounds.

Mental Demands

The Firefighter frequently requires time pressures, frequent change of tasks, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, irregular schedule/overtime, and working closely with others as part of a team. Occasionally requires tedious or exacting work and noisy/distracting environment.
