Onshore Substation Construction Manager

Our client, a pioneer in the energy sector, is seeking an experienced Onshore Substation Construction Manager to join their team. With a strong focus on clean energy, they operate more offshore wind energy projects than any other company in the world and aim to be the first energy company to reach net-zero carbon emissions.

Their current project involves the construction of a 704 MW onshore substation in Rhode Island, requiring a skilled professional to oversee the project's progress, ensure compliance with contractual requirements, and maintain high standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the client's Owner's Representative at the onshore substation construction site, reporting directly to the Senior Project Manager.
  • Participate in relevant meetings at the site or back office to discuss project progress, contractual payments, and business-critical milestones.
  • Closely monitor and ensure compliance with agreed construction site progress, contractual payment, and business-critical milestones, quality, and safety matters.
  • Recommend contingencies, mitigations, and programs to improve progress, quality, safety, and costs, where applicable.
  • Establish close collaboration with the JV-partner and act as a liaison person between the JV-partner and other client interfaces and personnel at the site.
  • Scrutinize the JV-partner's Quality Management Plan and Inspection & Test Plans for civil construction and mechanical installation activities, preservation, conditioning, and storage of goods/equipment as per contractual requirements and the Scope of Work.
  • Scrutinize the JV-partner's HSE Management plan, including how chain responsibility and audit will be ensured towards the JV-partner (internal) and towards his Contractors.
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Hold a MSc/BSc in Civil Engineering/Construction management or have a solid track record in construction management.
  • Have more than 20 years of documented experience within construction management and HSE leadership of onshore activities in large-scale (onshore substation) construction projects.
  • Understand and deliver the scope from an Owner's Team perspective, having a strategic focus, business case impact understanding, foreseeing and mitigating potential bottlenecks or setbacks before they occur, and being a strong support to the JV-partner.
  • Possess comprehensive leadership and management skills for impactful communication with the Contractor and Stakeholders.
  • Have a strong personal drive and thrive working in a senior project management role coordinating complex civil activities and managing associated tasks in a professional manner.
  • Be resilient, persistent, and thrive in an international environment, with the ability to create good relationships with your stakeholders.
