Opportunity
We invite applications for the prestigious Glenn '65 and Heather Hilliard Endowed Professorship in Sustainable Forestry and Land Conservation.
This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track role within the Department of Forestry and Environmental Conservation, part of the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences.

The Department of Forestry and Environmental Conservation is renowned for its exceptional research, educational, and outreach initiatives in natural resource conservation, committed to fostering an inclusive environment.
Our campus is situated in a region rich in natural beauty, providing extensive opportunities for research and educational activities.
The Department offers three undergraduate programs, including Forest Resource Management, Wildlife and Fisheries Biology, and Environmental and Natural Resources, along with advanced degrees in related fields.
Key Responsibilities
With approximately 67% of the land in the region covered by forests, the local forestry sector significantly contributes to the economy.
The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues and external partners dedicated to the conservation of forests and green spaces at various scales.
Responsibilities will encompass teaching, research, and service within the Department. Teaching duties will include undergraduate and graduate courses, with potential topics such as Forest Resource Policy, Forest Resource Economics, and Forest Resource Management and Conservation.
Additionally, the candidate will be expected to establish a funded, interdisciplinary research program focused on sustainable forest management, utilizing advanced techniques in spatial analysis and geospatial visualization.
Integration of research across natural and social sciences is highly encouraged.
Service duties will involve participation in departmental, college, and university activities, mentoring students and new faculty, and engaging with various stakeholders.
The incumbent will also oversee the management of the endowed fund, which supports research and travel initiatives.
QualificationsWe seek a distinguished and forward-thinking professional to assume the Hilliard Endowed Professorship in Sustainable Forestry and Land Conservation.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in a relevant natural resources discipline, with preference for candidates holding a degree in Forestry from an accredited institution.
A proven record of scholarly achievement suitable for a tenured position at the rank of associate or full professor is preferred, although candidates at the assistant professor level may also be considered based on their scholarly contributions.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- A strong record of teaching effectiveness at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
- A commitment to mentoring graduate students.
- A history of research excellence, including the ability to lead large, interdisciplinary, grant-funded initiatives.
- An ability to tackle complex issues related to forest management and conservation on multiple scales.
