Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor junior planning officers to ensure high-quality work and efficient delivery of planning services.
  • Make decisions on planning applications, including determining whether planning permission is required, and attending planning committee meetings.
  • Provide professional advice on development management matters, including planning policy and enforcement.
  • Assist with the day-to-day supervision of junior planning officers, including workload management and signing off work.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of planning policies and strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with other teams, including enforcement and condition compliance, to ensure effective delivery of planning services.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in development management, including processing and determining major planning applications.
  • Degree or diploma in planning or a related subject.
  • Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI).
  • Excellent written and communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • High level of personal initiative and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interpret planning legislation and policies, and apply them to specific cases.
  • Strong analytical and evaluative skills, with the ability to think critically and make sound judgments.
  • Experience of Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team, with a focus on delivering high-quality results.

Working Arrangements

The successful candidate will be required to work flexibly, including occasional travel to different locations within Moray. A car or van may be required for this purpose.
