Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Cook-Back Kitchen Specialist to join our team at UnityPoint Health. As a key member of our culinary team, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of menu items for patients, cafeteria, special functions, and satellite accounts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, organize, assemble, and cook from scratch or convenience all meats, entrees, casseroles, soup, starches, vegetables, sauces, and bakery products to provide menu selections for patient, cafeteria, special function, and satellite accounts.
  • Cook using standardized recipes and creatively utilize leftovers to minimize waste and decrease food cost.
  • Prepare quantities indicated on computerized production sheets and special function lists.
  • Pull needed meats, eggs, and vegetables from the freezer in advance of production and pan, slice, or bread meats as needed.
  • Bake, steam, fry, and pre-prep items for the next day's menus.
Technical and Safety Requirements
  • Correctly operate department equipment that has been assigned.
  • Clean and restock dishes, food, and supplies during hours of operation as assigned.
  • Practice HACCP guidelines for food handling and maintain a sanitary and safe condition.
  • Report any equipment malfunction to a supervisor and monitor and record temperatures.
  • Utilize safe food handling techniques and maintain a clean and orderly work station.
Qualifications
  • High School Education or GED
  • Less than one year of experience
  • ServSafe Food Handler certification (training provided)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Writes, reads, comprehends, and speaks fluent English
  • Multicultural sensitivity
  • Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office
  • Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions
