Role Overview

The Retail Sales Team Lead is a vital position at Dollar General, requiring strong leadership skills and a customer-first focus. As a key member of our sales team, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean, well-organized store environment while providing exceptional service to customers. This role involves assisting customers in locating and purchasing merchandise, operating a cash register, stocking and recovering merchandise, cleaning the store, and performing other duties as assigned by the Store Manager to maximize store profitability and customer satisfaction.

About the Job

As a Lead Sales Associate, you will lead by example, demonstrating a strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service and ensuring that the store is always clean and well-maintained. You will also assist with opening and closing procedures, including operating a cash register, counting change, and verifying inventory levels. Additionally, you will help maintain a safe and secure shopping environment, following company safety policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

* Provide superior customer service leadership; greet and assist customers
* Operate cash register and scanner to itemize and total customer's purchase, collect payment from customers and make change, bag merchandise, and assist customers with merchandise as necessary
* Follow company work processes to receive, open and unpack boxes, cartons and totes of merchandise; stock merchandise, restock and rotate merchandise on shelves, and build merchandise displays
* Clean the store; take out trash; dust and mop store floors; clean restroom and stockroom; and help set up sidewalk displays
* Assist in implementation and maintenance of planograms
* Open and close the store under specific direction of the Store Manager

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should possess effective interpersonal and oral communication skills, as well as a basic understanding of safety policies and practices. You should also be able to read and follow planogram and merchandise presentation guides, perform mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages, and operate cash register functions. Furthermore, you should have knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, as well as cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control. An ability to drive own vehicle to the bank to deposit money is also required.

Working Conditions

This role requires frequent walking and standing, frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling to run check out station, stock merchandise and unload trucks, which may also require the ability to push and/or pull rolltainers for stocking merchandise. Frequent handling of merchandise and equipment such as handheld scanners, pricing guns, box cutters, merchandise containers, two-wheel dollies, U-boats (six-wheel carts), and rolltainers is also required. You should be able to frequently and properly lift up to 40 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 55 pounds. Climbing using step ladder up to heights of six feet may also be required. The fast-paced environment and moderate noise level are typical of this role. Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions and occasional or regular driving/providing own transportation to make bank deposits, attend management meetings and travel to other Dollar General stores may also be required.

Salary Range: $35,000 - $50,000 per year, depending on experience.
