Job Summary

The Virginia Department of Health is seeking a skilled Nutrition Assistant to join our team. As a Nutrition Assistant, you will work under the guidance of a Nutritionist and/or Nutritionist Associate to obtain health and diet information from clients and provide low-risk nutrition education according to established protocols. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively as a member of a healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

Obtain health and diet information from clients
Provide low-risk nutrition education according to established protocols
Schedule WIC appointments and maintain WIC records
Compile WIC reports and secure information needed for WIC income eligibility determination
Instruct clients about program guidelines and assist with WIC draft distribution

Requirements

Demonstrated ability to interview clients and collect client information
Knowledge and skills with computers and software, including Crossroads and internal webmail
Some knowledge of basic nutrition and nutritional standards
Ability to communicate and interact with a variety of patients
