CDL Driver Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated CDL Driver to join our team at Waste Connections in Bend, OR.

Job Summary:

The CDL Driver will be responsible for safely operating a garbage truck on specified routes to collect solid waste. The ideal candidate will have a valid Class A or B CDL license with air brake endorsement and a minimum of 1 year of experience in a related field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate a garbage truck on specified routes to collect solid waste.
  • Read route sheets and service each customer identified on the sheet or assigned by the dispatcher.
  • Perform routine inspection and maintenance on vehicles, including checking fluids, safety equipment, and tires.
  • Ability to work a physically demanding job, loading and unloading, moving waste bins to positions accessible by truck, and closing all enclosure gates as necessary.
  • Operate hydraulic hand controls to lift/load refuse, operate compactor, and dispose of collected material at the designated facility.
  • Clean up the area around accidental waste spills.
  • Complete daily reports on pre and post trip inspections of equipment.
  • Fuel vehicle daily.
  • Maintain the physical appearance of the equipment, including routine washing.
  • Monitor over and under filled carts/containers to assess changing service requirements.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Valid Class A or B CDL license with air brake endorsement.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a related field.
  • Working knowledge of D.O.T. laws.
  • Ability to work a physically demanding job.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend reports to complete daily assignments.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to function in a wide variety of environments to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and move and maneuver up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to mount and dismount the truck multiple times every day while on route.
