Simulation Educator

Job Description
CMU Health is seeking a skilled Simulation Educator to design, implement, and evaluate simulation-based learning experiences. As a key member of our clinical simulation team, you will collaborate with clinical faculty and other stakeholders to create immersive, high-fidelity simulation scenarios that enhance clinical education and promote patient safety.
Essential Functions:
- Collaborate with faculty and subject matter experts to design and develop evidenced-based simulation scenarios tailored to meet education objectives.
- Lead and facilitate simulation-based learning sessions, including pre-briefing, scenario execution, and debriefing.
- Collaborate with educational leaders to integrate simulation into clinical education programs, aligning simulation activities with course objectives, competencies, and healthcare standards.
- Instruct educational activities offered through the Department of Clinical Simulation.
- Assist in the exploration of new, creative directions in medical simulation.
- Participate in educational research initiatives and stay current with emerging trends in simulation education, contributing to continuous improvements.
- Assist in the evaluation and continuous improvement of the simulation program, including scenario effectiveness, learner satisfaction, and alignment with institutional goals.
- Work closely with simulation operations technicians to ensure the proper setup, functionality, and maintenance of simulation equipment and technology.
- Support inter-professional, academic educational simulation curriculum development and implementation.
- Ability to work well under pressure, set priorities, and make critical decisions.
- Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment; able to work evening and weekends periodically.
- Uphold all policies and procedures in accordance with SSH Accreditation standards.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing, medicine, healthcare education, or a related field required. Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting required.
- Experience in healthcare simulation or clinical education preferred. CHSE preferred.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles and educational methodologies.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills required.
- Ability to function independently, self-directed with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
- Excellent computer skills, including database entry and reporting. Must have experience with Microsoft Office application suite.
- Ability to provide exceptional customer service, meet project deadlines, and complete tasks within designated and/or reasonable timeframes.
- Must be committed and dedicated to the concept of simulation-based education and possess a vision of the importance of simulation teaching in medical education.
Working Environment/Physical Demands:
- Work requires frequent lifting of equipment < 50 lb., and occasionally lifting (with assistance) of equipment < 100 lb.
- Work requires use of specialized medical equipment.
- Frequent standing, walking, and bending required during simulation setup and operation.
Travel:
No travel required for day-to-day duties of this position. This person may be asked to travel outside of the area or State for training specific to simulator maintenance and education. This person may at times be asked to assist in activities in the Simulation Center at CMU in Mt. Pleasant.
