Education & Certification:
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and have successfully completed a state-approved Nursing Aide program. A current certification in good standing is required, or the ability to obtain certification within four months of employment, if permitted by state regulations. CPR certification is also necessary.
Skills & Requirements:
Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English, effectively communicating resident conditions, and making independent decisions as required. A solid understanding of state-defined rules, laws, and regulations related to skilled nursing is essential. The ideal candidate will exhibit patience, friendliness, courtesy, and respect towards residents, even in challenging situations. Physical capabilities include frequent movement throughout the workday, responding to resident call lights, and assisting with personal care tasks such as bathing, toileting, feeding, and grooming. The ability to handle sensitive emotional situations with dignity and respect is crucial. Physical lifting requirements include the ability to lift 40 lbs from floor to waist, 10 lbs from waist to shoulder, and to push/pull 40 lbs.
Experience:
A minimum of six months of experience in a long-term care or geriatric care setting is preferred.
Essential Job Duties:
- Deliver quality nursing care to residents while fostering positive relationships with residents and their families.
- Conduct regular rounds to ensure proper resident care and service.
- Monitor residents for changes in condition and report findings to the nursing supervisor.
- Respond promptly and courteously to resident call lights.
- Assist with meal delivery and feeding, ensuring residents remain hydrated.
- Perform vital sign monitoring and charting, observing residents for any changes in condition or behavior.
- Aid residents with personal hygiene, including showers and baths.
- Provide assistance with lifting, turning, and transferring residents.
- Ensure cleanliness and comfort for incontinent residents.
- Support residents with toileting needs and collect samples as directed.
- Maintain good hygiene practices through oral care and grooming.
- Change bed linens and ensure proper skin care, reporting any concerns.
- Document changes and follow care plans accurately.
Other Job Duties:
- Adhere to facility policies regarding admissions, discharges, and transfers, preparing resident rooms accordingly.
- Organize and label residents' personal belongings.
- Provide support for residents in end-of-life care and post-mortem procedures.
- Receive reports from outgoing shifts to stay informed about resident needs.
- Encourage teamwork across departments to meet resident needs.
- Maintain a positive atmosphere by demonstrating a caring and friendly demeanor.
- Ensure residents have access to clean and fresh water.
- Train new nursing aides as needed.
- Assist with transportation of residents to various activities.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and other departments.
- Monitor and change dressings as directed.
- Arrive on time for scheduled shifts and conduct rounds with the previous shift.
- Collect specimens as instructed.
