Job Summary: The Pharmacy Technician II will support the pharmacy team in preparing medication orders, maintaining inventory, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
- Verify patient information and proper physician authorization.
- Check all orders for completeness of information and insurance approval.
- Under a professional's supervision, admix drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner.
- Calculate correct dosage volumes and maintain accurate records.
- Count controlled drugs weekly and maintain records.
- Maintain current drug information and MSDS sheets.
- Properly dispose of all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
- Clean the hood daily and log and date all drugs used.
- Check drugs monthly for outdates and maintain accurate temperature logs.
- Maintain proper control documentation of medications, including lot numbers and quality assurance activities.
- Complete inventory control of medications and order supplies and medications as needed.
- Prepare labels, file, and prepare billing.
- May provide direction/guidance to lower-level Pharmacy Technician staff.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Entry-level to three years of experience in a pharmacy.
- Level 2: Minimum three to five years of experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills, IV certification preferred, and Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board requirement recommended.
- Level Sr: Minimum five to seven years of experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills, oncology background preferred, and completion of an ASCP accredited program or community college-based program recommended.
