Certified School Nurse Opportunity

The Certified School Nurse (CSN) plays a vital role in identifying and treating health conditions among students in the school setting. This position requires a strong understanding of health promotion and disease prevention strategies to support students' overall wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings to develop assessment plans and health histories for students.
- Promote healthy practices and nursing services to students to ensure their success in general education classes.
- Coordinate services with other special services personnel within the school to support students' health needs.
- Communicate effectively with school administrators, teachers, and staff members about students with specific health problems, adhering to HIPAA and federal laws.
- Follow the school's district policies for health, emergency care, accidents, drug abuse, and bullying.
- Notify school administrators, local health departments, parents, and staff about confirmed communicable diseases within the school.
- Develop IEP goals related to students' health conditions that impact their learning.
- Complete and file school and state reports regarding screenings, immunizations, physicals, and other health-related activities.
- Chart pertinent information on students' health files.
- Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies applicable to the school health program.
- Prepare health reports for supervisors, the board of education, and the health department.
- Provide first aid care and medically prescribed services.
- Maintain the security of school health supplies and medications.
- Instruct students in health education according to the state curriculum.
- Serve as a resource person on health issues.
- Provide staff development on health-related topics for school staff and volunteers.
- Screen and conduct health appraisals for students and staff.
- Provide follow-up evaluations on students as required.
- Recommend corrective action where problems are identified.
- Correspond with parents on health needs of children.
- Identify abnormal growth and development, symptoms of disease, and discuss with parents.
- Coordinate and facilitate services between the school, local health agency, and other community resources.
- Develop positive working relationships.
Requirements:
- Current nursing license for the state in which the nurse practices.
- Certification or credential in school nursing, required.
- One year prior school nursing experience, preferred.
- Pediatric experience, preferred.
- Compliance with all relevant professional standards of practice.
- Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program, when applicable.
- Current CPR, if applicable.
- TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray, if applicable.
- Current Health certificate, per contract or state regulation.
- Meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
- Successful completion of new hire training, as applicable to the job site.
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals, including supervisors, co-workers, clients, via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required.
- Computer proficiency required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
