Unit Overview:
The unit comprises 50 beds, split between two sections: A side with 24 beds and B side with 26 beds.
The patient demographic primarily includes adults over 17 years of age, focusing on cardiac patients, including those with cardiac drips and post-cardiac procedures, as well as pulmonary patients and medical-surgical overflow with diverse diagnoses.
This is a fast-paced environment that handles medically complex cases. Effective communication among team members is essential, particularly with the Heart and Vascular Institute procedural area. Teamwork is vital to deliver high-quality care.
Team Dynamics:
New and seasoned team members collaborate to drive innovative patient care initiatives and foster a culture of inclusivity.
Key Nursing Skills and Equipment:
Responsibilities include comprehensive head-to-toe assessments, initiation and management of cardiac drips, and pre- and post-procedural care for cardiac catheterization, pacemaker/ICD placement, ablation, and revascularization. Equipment utilized includes IV pumps, wound vacs, telemetry monitoring, tube feeding pumps, Zoll defibrillator, and electronic EMR.
Qualifications:
An Associate's Degree in Nursing or a Diploma in Nursing is required.
Completion of all mandatory continuing education regarding the care of acute stroke patients is essential.
Responsibilities include maintaining accurate documentation of nursing care to ensure integration of information for the healthcare team.
Patient Care Responsibilities:
Conduct initial assessments upon patient admission and develop suitable care plans based on unit standards and patient and family needs. Implement and modify care plans based on ongoing evaluations.
Communicate effectively with others to resolve issues, manage care for acute and chronically ill cardiac and pulmonary patients, and collaboratively establish patient care goals.
Discharge patients and provide instructions for a safe transition from the hospital, ensuring basic care standards are met.
