Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Certified Medical Assistant to join our team at Family Care Centers. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain vital signs and general health information for patient charts and prepare patients for examination.
  • Maintain patient health records in an up-to-date status, especially regarding pain assessment and current medication sheets.
  • Assure documentation is complete, concise, and correct.
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms and medical equipment for patient visits.
  • Contribute to the plan of care for individuals and groups of patients, utilizing all principles to reduce medication errors when handling or calling in medications or refills.
  • Demonstrate initiative in suggesting and implementing problem-solving approaches and planning the performance of services.
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms and medical equipment for patient visits, regarding all safety checks and HIPAA guidelines, and adapt same HIPAA principles to chart documentation and exposure, as well as discussing PHI in front of anyone other than the patient.
  • Triage patients and enter accurate and concise data into the EMR, while paying attention to spelling and clarity.
  • Navigate the EMR system in an efficient manner.
  • Facilitate quality care management through best practice utilization of the clinic EMR.
  • Promote continuity of care through appropriate actions, notes, and prompt follow-up.
  • Answer phones, route calls, and/or take accurate messages. Demonstrate a sense of urgency relating to a patient's level of distress.
  • Triage basic patient care needs, generating a telephone encounter depending on the situation. Assure a duplicate message has not already been started.
  • Manage the scheduling of patient appointments. Register new patients and maintain current, accurate, up-to-date demographic and insurance information for all patients. Perform according to policy regulations associated with Privacy Notification, Medicare secondary, signed demographic registrations, consent to treat minors, etc.
  • Identify barriers related to Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) and notify the provider.
  • Verify insurance eligibility, scan insurance cards.
  • Check patients in and/or out for visits in an appropriate manner. Accurate and appropriate use of ICD-10 and CPT codes.
  • Process patient referrals for tests and referrals to specialists. Monitor referral work queues for follow-up. Assist nursing and/or other clinic personnel in follow-up to ensure patient compliance, receipt of test results, and reports from specialists. Be proactive in contacting patients with test results.
  • Forward requests for Medical Records to the Release of Information Department.
  • Recognize how fraud and abuse interplay into daily roles.
  • Ensure orders are entered correctly to capture appropriate charges.
  • Refill medications according to medication refill guidelines.
  • Identify barriers germane to patient individual needs, being financial, emotional, physical, cultural, or spiritual (SDOH).
  • Astute and sensitive to patient satisfaction as it pertains to customer service - people skills in all clinical situations.

Qualifications:

The following, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

Education/formal training/licensure/certifications/experience: Graduate of an accredited program of Certified Medical Assistants or graduate of a certified Basic EMT Program. Prefer at least one year of clinical experience in family care practice.

Additional Skills:

Knowledge of medications and their effects on patients; strong interpersonal and verbal communications skills; age-specific skills, ability to work with accuracy and speed, perform several tasks at one time, and react calmly and effectively in an emergency.

Working Conditions:

Potential exposure to hazardous materials, chemicals, and detergents; potential exposure to communicable disease and/or body fluids; work extended hours as needed; travel to other clinics as required.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to access all areas of the facility; able to communicate clearly and concisely; visual acuity; ability to withstand extended periods of walking, standing, occasional lifting, bending, stooping.
