Position Overview

The Principal Wind Technician plays a vital role in the Renewable Central Maintenance Team, acting as the primary line of defense to guarantee the secure and efficient operation of wind farm activities. This position emphasizes the safe execution of field-based troubleshooting, diagnostics, and ensuring long-term reliability and profitability of wind energy systems. This role is flexible and can be based at any NextEra wind site across the United States, requiring approximately 50% travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhering to Operation Safety Policy Instructions, performing fieldwork in accordance with OSHA regulations, promoting exemplary safety practices, and fostering a strong safety culture among employees.
  • Engaging in Business Lean Six Sigma initiatives and projects.
  • Mentoring and developing fellow technicians to enhance team capabilities.
  • Assisting site management with timely safety and environmental reporting, financial assessments, and turbine performance metrics.
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders to create and implement operation-focused feedback and solutions for both planned and unplanned maintenance, improvement initiatives, and financial outcomes.
  • Representing NextEra Energy positively within the community and with clients.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conducting regular preventative maintenance and repairs on wind turbine power generation systems.
  • Executing advanced troubleshooting across electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems.
  • Maintaining all company-provided equipment, facilities, and tools.
  • Applying an advanced understanding of technical and process functions, including leadership skills.
  • Acting as a qualified substitute in the absence of site management.
  • Leading teams in Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives.
  • Providing guidance to other personnel and serving as a Safety Mentor.
  • Completing special projects or complex task assignments as required.
  • Meeting attendance expectations consistently.
  • Performing additional job-related tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Successful completion of a Post-Offer Functional Capacity Evaluation.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License (NON CDL).
  • Capability to climb wind turbines up to 300 feet.
