Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Laboratory Technician will adhere to the standards established by CLIA and the California Codes, ensuring that unlicensed laboratory personnel operate under the supervision of licensed professionals at all times. This role is critical in maintaining the integrity of the laboratory processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receives and verifies specimens, ensuring correct identification and requested tests.
  • Assesses the adequacy and suitability of samples received.
  • Labels and organizes specimens appropriately.
  • Prepares specimens for dispatch to reference laboratories.
  • Disposes of specimens older than 7 days in accordance with established protocols.
  • Centrifuges specimens as required.
  • Sorts and catalogs all specimens accurately.
  • Inputs client and specimen information into the laboratory information system.
  • Ensures the accuracy of data entry.
  • Decontaminates work surfaces as per safety guidelines.
  • Utilizes personal protective equipment as mandated by policy.
  • Adheres to all safety procedures outlined in the safety manual.
  • Identifies personal development needs and seeks opportunities for improvement.
  • Engages in coaching and mentoring as necessary.
  • Complies with all relevant legal requirements, standards, and procedures, including those related to compliance and conduct.
  • Participates in mandatory training programs related to compliance and HIPAA.
  • Reports any concerns or suspected compliance issues.
  • Cooperates with monitoring and auditing processes.
  • Contributes to process improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Previous laboratory experience is preferred. Proficiency in data entry and computer skills is essential.
